what is magicbox ?

I live in mid Wales up in the hills in an 800 acre woodland. Ive been here with my family for the past 18 years. Weve built a house, had children, kept chickens walked the dog, played in the woods and trekked in the hills. We’re about 18 miles from the coast so have spent many happy days lying in the dunes and swimming in the sea. Wales is a beautiful and inspiring landscape and I find myself surrounded by natural materials which I’m now busy turning into boxes.

I made my first puzzle box in 1993 when I was studying to be an industrial designer in Newcastle UK. Since leaving university I have worked in special effects for film and television, designed and made exhibits for the science museum London, Hove museum and the centre for alternative technology in Wales and started a company building treehouses to let out for short break holidays, it’s been busy.

During that time I have continued to design and make puzzle boxes and create craft items as commissions as well as presents for friends and family. This site is the culmination of that work and a chance for me to get my work out into the world.
